Rails and Merb

I spent 3 weeks to understand Ruby way in web development. The main goal was to learn Rails, so I bought Russian translation of he book The Rails Way . What a pity, the book based on Rails 1.x, but current version of Rails was 2.3.5, therefore I decided to throw out these useless papers pack.

The Rails 2.x itself looks like complex, but too monolithic. The is no easy way to do something out of Rails way. You cannot use other templating system, other ORM.

The much pretty framework is Merb. Really modular system. Slices – good things. But Engine Yard (who employed Yehuda Katz, the lead developer of the Merb) decided to finish supporting Merb – in favor of Rails. I understand their position, because the Rails community much more than Merb community. Therefore the work on new Rails version will be better for Engine Yard business.

What we get? Merb will be dead. Rails 3 will include some parts of Merb (see the Katz’s blog). I won’t spend my time on Ruby until Katz publish Rails 3. Sorry.
